New Still Life Work

It's been a while since I've been able to concentrate on any photography of note. I've recently done a few lighting and composition experiments in still life photography.

Here's an experiment in composition, both in placement of the subject and constructed background and lighting, that I think worked out well:

Here's a simpler shot of the same orchid, with some variation in the lighting:

Here are the results in some experiments in lighting reflective glass objects with a single light (pay no attention to the suspiciously missing contents from each of these - these three bottles have actually been on my shelf for years):

Still Life Flora

I was inspired this weekend to play with controlled light in still life photography. I went downstairs and bought some flowers (a stressful experience - the number of times I've bought flowers in my life that wasn't a last-second purchase to be immediately handed off to my mother or another deserving female is exactly zero), spent hours setting up the lights and tweaking the arrangements. Below are a few examples.

Christmas Family Portraits

At Christmas this year we had a larger than usual family gathering. I took the opportunity to do individual portraits of each. Here are a few of the ones I liked the best. Christmas Family PortraitsChristmas Family Portraits Christmas Family Portraits Christmas Family Portraits
